Day 43

"basket"
Nothing special today. I'm feeling so blah and I hate that.

Thursday, February 26, 2009

Day 42

"water"
Cleaned the chopping board and thought I'd try and get some water splash shots. Not the greatest but still o.k. for a cheap camera.

Day 41

SERIOUSLY?!?!?!
This is just pure stupidity! STUPIDITY!!! And this is only 10 of the how many? earmarks in the stimulus package. This is what happens when PEOPLE DON'T READ IMPORTANT DOCUMENTS BEFORE SIGNING THEM!! And I know it's not just the Democrats grabbing money for their little pet projects, there's some Republicans doing the same thing! One of them is from my state. Sen. Thad Cochran is getting $950,000 for a nature education center! SERIOUSLY? Is a nature education center something that should be on the top of our priority list right now? I freakin think NOT!
I think that Gov. Jindal hit the nail on the head when he said:
" Who among us would ask our children for a loan, so we could spend money we do not have, on things we do not need? That is precisely what the Democrats in Congress just did. It's irresponsible. And it's no way to strengthen our economy, create jobs, or build a prosperous future for our children."
AAAAAAMENNNN!

Day 40

"Mardi Gras is over..."
Another year of Mardi Gras has come and gone. Kinda sad. This is from the parade in Biloxi today. Definitely the biggest set of beads I saw today!! What's next on the agenda of local customs? The St. Patty's parade where we will catch some cabbage, carrots, and potatoes. And cups of hot beer if we're lucky!

Day 39

"sunset"
"Clouds come floating into my life, no longer to carry rain or usher storm, but to add color to my sunset sky."
-Rabindranath Tagore

Sunday, February 22, 2009

Day 38

"lookin for gators"
"The best remedy for those who are afraid, lonely or unhappy is to go outside, somewhere where they can be quiet, alone with the heavens, nature and God. Because only then does one feel that all is as it should be and that God wishes to see people happy, amidst the simple beauty of nature."
-Anne Frank
Mike's brother is down this week for a visit and we decided to take a mini "road trip" to look for alligators today. Although we didn't see any alligators we did see some beautiful scenery. It was hard for me to pick just one picture for today and I wanted to share my other favorites with y'all.
(btw...Mari, we did enjoy it. In fact we enjoyed it so much that it was gone by bedtime last night! LOL...and Vicki, King Cake's are sooo freakin good! It's more like a big cinnamon roll than a cake and you can get them with different flavored fillings. Ours had an apple pie like filling, but I personally like the cream cheese filled ones best.)

Day 37

King Cake
It's Mardi Gras time here on the coast and King Cake is one of the must haves!! Sooo Good!
Leze le bon ton roule!

Day 36

"Plastic flowers"
OK, so these aren't plastic but they do kinda look plastic. It's some shrub in the yard and I have no idea what it is, but when I was taking pictures today these flowers reminded me of something else from my childhood that I thought I'd share with y'all.
My daddy is a retired Baptist preacher. When I was elementary school age, we lived in the parsonage of the church he was pastor of. There were two roads that intersected at a 4-way stop, so you can sort of picture four sections of property. In one section was the church, another was the cemetery, another was our house, and the fourth was a pasture. My mama would keep a few kids after school and sometimes we would play out in the cemetery. Now we didn't damage anything or act all bad like some of you might already be thinking. Behind the cemetery was an area where people could throw the old flowers and whenever the men from the church would get together to mow grass and clean up the cemetery they would gather those and take them to the dump. So what us "younguns" would do is sort through the garbage pile and pick out the best plastic flowers we could find to put on the graves that didn't have any flowers on them!

Day 35

"Hay Cereal"
Shredded wheat is my favorite cereal. It has been since I was a child. When my mama would go grocery shopping I would throw a fit to get the box of cereal with what I thought was the best prize in it, but when it came time for my breakfast, shredded wheat was what I wanted. No Lucky Charms or Froot Loops for me. I wanted my "hay cereal"! In my childish mind it looked like miniature bales of hay. But I must say, back in the day we didn't have all the different flavored frosting that is available now. And I sure don't remember any commercials geared towards children like we see on T.V. now. I can only imagine how excited I would have been had this tasty strawberry frosted variety had been around back then!!

Day 34

Z as in "zantrex"
“The higher your energy level, the more efficient your body The more efficient your body, the better you feel and the more you will use your talent to produce outstanding results.”
-Anthony Robbins
All the years I've taken these I have yet to see the "rapid weight loss"! But the energy boost is good, lol.
I'm kinda glad this ABC thing is over and done with. A few times I just wanted to quit so I am extremely glad that I stuck it out and completed it. Only 331 more days to go. WhooHoo!!

Tuesday, February 17, 2009

Day 33

This is the best thing I could come up with for an x.
Thank God Monday is O V E R!

Day 31

W as in "weeds"
" They know, they just know where to grow, how to dupe you, and how to camouflage themselves among the perfectly respectable plants, they just know, and therefore, I've concluded weeds must have brains. "
- Dianne Benson, Dirt, 1994
From my VERY neglected back yard. Perhaps it is time to break out the Weed&Feed!

Saturday, February 14, 2009

Day 30

V as in "Valentine"
"We loved with a love that was more than love."
-Edgar Allan Poe
Got a cute gift basket of stuff, but this was by far the best part of it. Yummmmy!

Friday, February 13, 2009

Day 29

Beads
I decided to wait until tomorrow to do my "V" picture since it will be Valentine's Day. And since Mardi Gras season has started, I thought I'd show y'all some of last years loot. We pretty much only keep the big beads and beads that "have stuff on 'em", the others we just give away. Last years favorites were the blue dolphin beads and the crawfish beads!

Thursday, February 12, 2009

Day 28

U as in "ubiquitous"
OK..today I was completely stumped for a "u" word. I don't own an umbrella and I don't know about y'all, but there aren't that many unicorns around where I live! Well, when I woke up this morning the word "ubiquitous" was just stuck in my head (yes, it has already been confirmed in previous posts that I am indeed a full blooded D O R K! lol). So then I just had to try and come up with a way to portray that in a picture. How do you do that? Well, I hope you can get my idea. I think everyone knows what a Scrabble board looks like so I guess that makes it somewhat ubiquitous. Right? Well anyhow, I just put a "sorta" definition on the board and added my signature and there you have it. Day 28: U as in "ubiquitous"

Wednesday, February 11, 2009

Day 27

T as in "towels"
“Do you know what you call those who use towels and never wash them, eat meals and never do the dishes, sit in rooms they never clean, and are entertained till they drop? If you have just answered, "A house guest," you're wrong because I have just described my kids."
-Erma Bombeck

Tuesday, February 10, 2009

Day 26

S as in "sweets for my sweetie"
Yeah I know that's a dorky caption but what can I say..I am a dork! lol
These are chocolate chocolate chip cookies that I made today using a Dassant brownie mix. This is part of Mike's Valentine's Day gifts, but I went ahead and made them today since I knew I would have time to. I'm sure they will not last until the actual day!!

Monday, February 9, 2009

Day 25

R as in "real good eatin"
"Shrimp is the fruit of the sea. You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, sautee it. There's, um, shrimp kebabs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo, pan fried, deep fried, stir fried. There's pineapple shrimp and lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich... That's, that's about it.”
-Bubba Blue from the movie Forest Gump

Sunday, February 8, 2009

Day 24

Q as in "quite questionable"
I must confess, I had quite a mental quarrel over my quarry for a quirky photo for today. But being quick-witted I was able to come up with something that qualifies, queer as it may seem!

Saturday, February 7, 2009

Day 23

P as in "a perfect day"
We had an absolutely beautiful day here. The temp was in the low 70's. Blue sky all day. PERFECT. While we were doing some yard work, I looked up and realized that this amazing blue sky would be a great pic for today. And just when I thought this day couldn't get any better, it did...Mike decided to cook supper!! (now I don't have to)

Friday, February 6, 2009

Day 22

O as in "onion blossom pringles oh my!!"
So this is my new favorite flavor of Pringles. They are just absolutely deeelicious! Not too much onion flavor with a hint of honey mustard. Perfect!

Thursday, February 5, 2009

Day 21

N as in "nail"
Isaiah 22:23
And I will fasten him as a nail in a sure place; and he shall be for a glorious throne to his father's house.

Wednesday, February 4, 2009

Day 20

M as in "money"
"If you want to feel rich, just count the things you have that money can't buy."
-Proverb
Last night when I was trying to think of "m" words for today's photo, I thought about doing a picture of me. Well, needless to say, that was not the best idea I've ever had. Perhaps I should have taken into consideration the facts that (a) I do NOT like any picture that has ever been taken of me and (b) I have absolutely NONE of the photogenic qualities that my siblings seemed to inherit. So, that left me with my "money" shot. Just another easy pic. I need to try and think outside the box I do believe!
But...in my attempt to try and take some pics of myself, I did get this one. It has been cropped but has no other types of image manipulation. Can you guess what it is? I must say that I really liked this even though there really isn't anything there.

Finally, this was my other option for today's photo. Not so good, but I do like how it turned out after using Poladroid. (well I like it except for the two white dots on my eyes.)

Tuesday, February 3, 2009

Day 19

L as in "light"
"A sensible man will remember that the eyes may be confused in two ways - by a change from light to darkness or from darkness to light; and he will recognize that the same thing happens to the soul. "
-Plato

Day 18

K as in "Kimbo"
Just another typical Monday. Blah, blah, blah. But I must say, I have THE cutest dog ever!!

Sunday, February 1, 2009

Day 17

J as in "juice"
"I can't live off of yesterday - that's in the past."
-Juice Newton
Alright. I know this quote wasn't about "juice" per se, but I like it. So there! And besides, who doesn't like some Juice Newton. I mean HELLO! Angel of the Morning?!?! Also, I know that this whole 365 thing is to select one picture a day (which I did), but I also wanted to add this one for yall to see. It's one I took a few months ago of an orange that finally fell off our tree (it was at the very top and we couldn't reach it even with a ladder!!). I found this program called Poladroid and I am LOVIN it! I'm especially proud of how this one turned out using it.
